I just spoke with Notue, my younger daughter who is with DISMAC and she did mentioned DISMAC did mentioned they flew over Rambi Island yesterday and reproted nothing urgent, from the air, therefore there was nothing much to report from Rambi. Banaban Nawaia Touakin Suva reporting NOW DAY 4 and still NO ONE has heard from Rabi

Ken Sigrah just got off the phone with Nawaia Touakin in Suva and he is most concerned about the fact that no emergency teams have got into Rabi yet. He stated , 'this is day four, and we know that the emergency teams flew over Rabi yesteday on there way to Cikobia and Taveuni but still no one has made contact. Fijians begin to rebuild after cyclone Tomas (Koro Island)

Villagers on the cyclone-battered Fijian island of Koro had their chainsaws, shovels and assorted tools out today clearing roads, rebuilding homes and dealing with damage from winds which gusted to 240kmh.

Devastation reports from the North

We are now receiving reports from the Northern Division in relation to the devastation caused by Hurricane Tomas. Tomas moved very slowly from the Eastern part of Vanua Levu towards Lau. For many areas like Cikobia, Udu Point, Rabi, Kioa and Taveuni they got the full brunt of Tomas for almost 6 hours. Cyclone Tomas Rabi Disaster fund is now open

We have set up a direct DONATIONS fundraising page and Ken will be leaving for Fiji to try and get across to Rabi as soon as he gets his emergency passport through.

Trying to get to Rabi - Can you help!

Ken's Fiji passport just expired today. He is being sworn in as an Australian citizen on 31st this month. He has rushed off this morning to Australian Immigration office to try and get an emergency passport to travel back to Fiji.

He needs to get over to Rabi as soon as possible so he can assess the situation and get some much needed help for the island and some emergency supplies in.

The scale of the damage caused by Hurricane Tomas in the Northern division continues to remain sketchy as much of the communication links to Vanua Levu and nearby islands have been broken. 5 Houses known to be destroyed by Cyclone Tomas Tabiang, Rabi Fiji

Ken just spoke with Uea at Tabiang village and he has 5 houses nearby destroyed by Cyclone Tomas. They are all moving out now to higher ground at Rabi High School.

Binati around at Tabwewa says all the food trees are gone now but house was still holding. As we have advised him that the Cyclone is still coming at them and will get worse he is now preparing the rooms inside the house to protect them all if the roof goes. Penalty if you defy the warnings - Cyclone Tomas expected to be stronger than previous cyclones

PEOPLE who defy warnings given by the National Disaster Management Office can be penalised under the Public Emergency Regulation.



NDMO acting director Pajiliai Dobui said they were advising people to take warnings seriously.
