Rabi Island to get own ice plant

An ice plant will be erected on the island of Rabi and should be ready by next year.



Ministry of Fisheries and Forests permanent secretary Inoke Wainiqolo told FijiLive the new ice plant in Rabi is to assist fishermen maintain the freshness of their fish before selling it to the market.



Wainiqolo said other maritime islands that have ice plants include Kadavu, Vanua Balavu, Lakeba and Vanua Levu.

TRAVELLING to Savusavu to buy ice will be a thing of the past for fishermen on Rabi Island in Vanua Levu after the Fisheries Department started work on a new ice plant in the area.

Ice plant saves travelling costs for Rabi islanders

A NEW ice plant is expected to be constructed on Rabi island at the end of the year.

The ice plant will result in fishermen on the island saving travelling costs to Savusavu to buy ice.

The Department of Fisheries revealed plans to construct the plant during the Prime Minister's visit to the island last week.
