Fiji Govt Online Portal
Dec 3, 2008, 16:26

Government for the first time this year has approved the allocation of $30,000 to the Rabi island Council to conduct its affairs on the island.

The Government assistance to the Rabi island council will cater for the cost of the electing eight new councilors and a new chairman for the Rabi Island Council.

The Commissioner Northern, Inia Seruiratu has reminded all Rabi islanders eligible to vote for the Rabi Island Council to do so and requested them to register under the provincial Roll at the office of the District Officer Macuata, Provincial Administrator in Savusavu, District Officer Lautoka and the District Officer in Suva.

The Commissioner's comments follows current trend of registration in Labasa where low turn outs has been experienced by the district administrator office.

The closing tentative date for the registration on polling is on the 20th of December 2008, he said.

Director for the Rabi Island Council, Mrs. Molly Amon said it likely that both the elections will be held as early as next year.

Provincial Administrator Cakaudrove, Mr. Alipate Bolalevu has coordinated with the Rabi Island Council and a date is yet to be confirmed on when the two elections will be conducted on the Island.
