A sanctuary for women - Rabi Island Fiji

FIJI TIMES ONLINE - Sunday, July 05, 2009

The Women's Interest Centre at Nuku is a sanctuary for women on Rabi Island. It's a place where they can bring in their handicrafts to sell and contribute to the family income. It's also somewhere they can gather for a lively game of bingo that can become a hilarious affair as they regale each other with jokes and laughs. The interest centre is an initiative of the Rabi Island Council and has a membership of more than 100 women.

According to Mere Timoteo who manages the centre women come in with various artifacts from trademark Rabian combs made from PVC pipes, mats, fans, bags to ropes plaited into hanging supports for pot plants. Tourists mostly frequent the centre.
