RABI Island is without an ambulance as the Health Ministry sorts out the van registration four years after it has been operational on island roads.
Health spokesman Iliesa Tora confirmed they were pursuing the process of registration.
"We discovered the van was not registered when they brought it in for repairs last year," he said.
Council chairman Dr Paulo Vanualailai said he was not aware of the ambulance's non-registration status.
Mr Tora said the ambulance, that was a donation from the Japanese Government four years ago, was transported to Rabi Island by the island's council without prior registration work being done.
"The ambulance was to be taken for fitness with LTA but that can't happen without a registration."
