Another five months is needed before the coconut industry is expected to stabilise.
That is the sentiment of the Agriculture Ministry Perrmanent Secretary Col Mason Smith as the industry records it’s all time highest mill gate price.
With the farmers expected to get over nine hundred dollars for every tonne of copra they bring to the Savusavu Copra Mill, the supply remains low.
However, Smith remains adamant that things will pick up.

Meanwhile, talks are still underway to finalise agreements with Kiribati to be able to buy their copra in order to keep the mill in Savusavu operating.
