News and information service for Banaban Network Worldwide!
Our chairman Paulo Vanulailai has told me that the first DISMAC team just make a quick visit to only 2 villages and Paulo has called them back yesterday to do an IMPORTANT full assessment of the island. He is awaiting their report which is essential to try and get the proper outside aid Rabi needs. They have already set up their only Rabi DIMAC that will make a COMPLETE report that is expected back within 24hours. As soon as Ken can get his satellite phone link go on Rabi. Paulo has advised that ALL communication towers are completely destroyed and they need emergency communications running as soon as possible.
Paulo also stated that he had to leave the Island to get help and coordinate efforts from Suva. He just told me it broke his heart to have to leave his people behind and seeing the looks on their faces knowing that they were already hungry. The coucillors will be having an Emergency Meeting at Banaban House 2pm Suva time and we will be setting up the RABI ISLAND DISASTER FUND in Suva to link with our current fundraising efforts we have already started for them. Our Chairman is determined to get his people help as soon as possible and we are calling on all our fiends with Red Cross, the many church denominations on Rabi, and our friends scattered globally to help our people back home.Paulo has 2 photos with him and will be sending them to us for upload shortly.
Ken is still out of contact and trying to get across. Once he is there we can at least coordinate between Suva office, Rabi, and here in Australia.
Calling on other Banabans living in Kiribati, USA, New Zealand to please link up with this network ASAP.
