THE special children of Harland Hostel are looking forward to wonderful Christmas thanks to a $1000 donation from theVodafone ATH towards the annual treat.
Manorama Singh, founding member of the Vodafone ATH Foundation and their media officer, Lenora Qereqeretabua visited the kids with hearing disabilities on Wednesday to hand over the money.
Despite the muted atmosphere, there was clearly happiness in the air as the children discussed the early Christmas presents in sign language and get cuddles from their visitors and members of the press.
Qereqeretabua said they knew that some of the kids at the home who were from Kiribati would be leaving soon, so an early present was necessary.
She revealed that the foundation staff would be going around to give presents to some other needy hostels and homes.
“We are here to make sure that they have a really good Christmas,” she said enthusiastically.
The home’s director Kaetema Toaisi handed them their present with a kiss on their cheek, and the children gave her a loving blow kiss in return, a good picture to catch on camera.
Fourty-two children are being cared for at the home. The very young members are under the supervision of their parent, while the teenagers are provided counselling by workers at the home.
