Dr Paulo (Bauro) Vanualailai reported today from Suva, that Fiji President - Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will be visiting Rabi either Wednesday or Thursday in the aftermath of Cyclone Tomas. The Chairman advised that they had also received 34 sets of clothing from the Catholic Archdiocese in Suva as part of an Australia Catholic aid package to assist Fiji. He also advised that that the RCL would purchase food aid today from Suva which already has short supplies of flour and sugar since the crisis. We are asking for all donations to try and come through as soon as possible to assist with this purchase of much needed food with Rabi now reaching the crisis point as food crops are now being depleted on the island. The ‘Silivan’ will take the food aid up to Savusvau for the next leg of the trip to Rabi via Karoko.
The Chairman advised that Banabans living in Suva and other urban areas of Fiji are planning a major fundraising event on the 10th of this month.
