The Pre world youth netball tournament has seen a major upset in the opening round in Auckland last night
Four teams are taking part this this build up tournament ahead of the World Youth Championships later this year.
Elma MaUa reports
“Fiji sent out a clear message that they will be the team to watch at the world youth tournament in the Cook Islands in august. Ranked 13th in the world and with players who have never been outside of Fiji they played with passion to outsmart the South Africans ranked in the top five. The game seesawed during the four quarters, but it was Fiji who held onto their nerve to beat South Africa 37-36, a result their Coach, Melissa Walker, was more than happy with her team. In the other game the world champions New Zealand thrashed the Cook Islands who has the youngest player at just 14”
