The Oceanica Foundation has recently been providing plans and diagrams, in some cases translated to local languages, for the construction of a simple Solar Powered Water Purifier/Desalinator in isolated Pacific atoll islands.
This mechanisim has no moving parts, can be made from mostly local materials and as it is built locally, it is easy to maintain and operate without outside materials or training. (can even operate without electricity where necessary; you then pump water by hand to the holding tank).
The construction materials should cost only a few hundred $$ and some can be salvaged from unused local mateial. (old single pane, non- reflective glass, etc.)
The Foundation would like to make contact with a local Island or Family Headman with whom we might initiate such a pilot project.
We are also seeking help to pre- construct these beautiful, long lasting water makers for shipment to these isolated locations throughout the Island Countries.
We have a potential location for construction in Melborne and a well organized young Fijian there who has interest in helping.
The Foundation will assist in the set up of the organization and provide plans and technical assistance, if we find any local interest.
