The Banaban Child Welfare Committee has made a public appeal for assistance to support disadvantaged children on Rabi Island. Committee secretary, Terikano Takesau said support was needed to fund accommodation costs and basic educational needs for children. Ms Takesau said they tried to get funds for the children living on the island for the past year. She said through Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation World of Difference Programme, the welfare conducted a survey on Rabi and identified 50 disadvantaged children. “A sponsor notified Fiji Sun and Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation of her interest to assist the Banaban children with $10000 as requested and the Lions Club of Labasa received the fund on behalf of the organisation last year,” Ms Takesau said. “We raised $775 last December but it is not enough to accommodate the school need of these children this year,” she added. Through Banaban Voice and Facebook, four people have responded and donated to welfare which would enable the 50 children access education this year.

  • The welfare with trustees and committee members thank Wilson Rood of USA and Stacey King and Ken Sigrah of Australia for their donation of $700 and another sponsor who wished to remain anonymous for donating $5,023.36.
  • To those who have hearts for these disadvantaged children, donations in cash can be made to Bank South Pacific, account name Banaban Child Welfare Bank and number 7973777.

Other donations can be posted to Banaban Child Welfare C/- Rabi Council of Leaders, PO Box 1, Rabi Island or contact Ms Takesau on 9998252.
