Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama today received a cheque in the sum of $59, 523.81 from the Government of Kiribati through the Kiribati High Commissioner Her Excellency, Mrs Reteta Rimon.
The cheque is a contribution towards the Prime Minister's National Disaster Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.
In accepting the cheque, the Prime Minister conveyed his appreciation and gratitude to the people of Kiribati through the Kiribati High Commissioner.
Commodore Bainimarama said that Kiribati and Fiji had a long association which is deeply embedded in our history, culture and economic exchanges.
He added that the assistance from the Government and people of Kiribati will go a long way in the relief and rehabilitation efforts following the floods a month ago.
"The contribution demonstrates the close and growing relationship Fiji has with the smaller islands in the Pacific who very much depend on Fiji given our location and transportation links," he said.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Bainimarama said that Fiji will always stand ready to help her neighbours in any way possible as they have done for Fiji in this assistance.
