The island nation of Kiribati is trying to increase the number of international flights which service it.
Pacific correspondent, Campbell Cooney, reports the government of Kiribati has asked for expressions of interest from airlines across the Pacific for the provision of both international services to Tarawa, and the other major population centre, Christmas Island,
Kiribati is also requesting domestic services linking the two destinations and to other internal destinations.
Kiribati currently has only one international air service, with Fiji-based Air Pacific providing two flights a week between its capital Tarawa, and Nadi, after Nauru based Our Airline cancelled its Brisbane to Tarawa service in June last year.
Air Pacific has confirmed it has been informed of the expression of intersts, and it is interested in providing this service in the future.
