A mother of four has been released by the Labasa High Court on good behaviour for four months after she threw her new born baby into the sea in Rabi.

Teruia Eketi pleaded guilty to infanticide before the court.

On March 10, last year - Eketi secretly gave birth to a baby boy, snapped the umbilical cord and wrapped the baby in a cloth before throwing the baby into the sea.

The baby was found on the seashore the following day with parts of his body savaged.

After giving birth - Eketi continued bleeding and was taken to the Rabi Health Centre.

The post mortem report stated that the baby - born at eight months and fully developed - died of excessive loss of blood from an untied umbilical cord.

Eketi is to undergo counselling - arranged by the Social Welfare Department.

Yes, Bua..... you are right......we ought to "THINK BIG"......before we do something........that we will never regret from doing it.

such an innocent being!!! i mean the baby ;(  i really want to say something that this mother deserves but on 2nd thought, it's wiser just to stop and think.. she really needs counselling and the support from her families and friends right now..hopefully she has learnt something from her mistake!!! PLEASE stop the B***S*** with the family planning taboos, it better to use family planning and avoid unwanted/unplanned pregnancies than to commit sins like murder..

This is so sad, very very sad :( still can't believe that our own people are doing this inhuman behaviour.
