The Banabans are excited as the construction of their new jetty, situated at Lasilasi Settlement near Uma Village, in Rabi nears completion. Chairman of the Rabi Council of Leaders Paulo Vanualailai said the jetty was expected to be completed by June 14. “We have received confirmation from the Public Works Department that the jetty should be completed next month,” Mr Vanualailai said. He said the people of Rabi were definitely excited about the development and they were expecting the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, to do the honours of opening the jetty. “We are all looking forward to the completion and want the Prime Minister to come and open it, after all this is his project; his vision for us. “We are poised to enter the global market and this project is one of its catalysts,” Mr Vanualailai said He said the jetty will help in the economy in Rabi, especially in income-generation. “We have to thank the government of the day for having this vision for us and helping us to get out there and help in the development of our economy.” Mr Vanualailai said The people of Rabi are also excited about other developments such as rice planting in progress at a farm settlement in Nuku, coconut rehabilitation at Bani and the upgrading of roads. Meanwhile in an earlier report, Fiji Roads Authority spokesman Iliesa Sokia said Pacific Building Solutions was in the final stages of completing the jetty.
