A new jetty is expected to be built in Rabi next month.
Speaking on Rabi island this afternoon - Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama confirmed that a new company has been given the tender to build the new jetty.
In his last visit in 2009 - Bainimarama told the people of Rabi that the jetty would be built but two years on - no work has eventuated.
Bainimarama says the company that initially won the tender for the construction failed to do their work.
Construction of the new jetty is expected to start in October and should be completed by March next year.
Bainimarama says once the jetty is completed - it will open doors for economic development.
Meanwhile - Rabi island will be getting an ice-plant towards the end of the year.
With the ice-plant - the people of Rabi will no longer have to travel to Savusavu to buy ice for their freezers.
