Pacific people asked to pray for Queensland flood victims

RADIO AUSTRALIA - PACIFIC BEAT Updated January 11, 2011 17:02:46

Meanwhile, Pacific island communities in Australia are being asked to pray for the victims of the unfolding flood disaster in Queensland.

Reverend Leva Pat, a Papua New Guinean minister who coordinates multicultural church congregations for the Uniting Church in Queensland, says most Pacific Island Queenslanders are concentrated in the state capital, Brisbane, which has not been as badly affacted as some rural areas.

But he says there are some Pacific Island communities who have been hit by the flooding, and they are concerned about what may happen if the same thing happens in Brisbane.

Presenter: Bruce Hill
Speaker: Reverend Leva Pat, from the Uniting Church in Queensland
