Banabans all over Fiji and abroad attended a week-long festival on the island of Rabi to commemorate the arrival of their ancestors. Banaban Women’s Organisation president Terikano Takesau said the island was crowded with their families and friends and the festival was different from the others. “This festival is different, the people are all getting themselves involved and altogether it has been successful from the day it had started,” Ms Takesau said Being an annual event Ms Takesau said this was a time where the people got to mingle and meet their relatives who lived outside the island and in overseas. “It is an event where we have managed to get our people together and even tourists are here on the island and this has become a way for us to showcase our history, tradition and culture to the world,” Ms Takesau said. The event has given the people an opportunity to also sell their handicrafts and show their talents to the visitors and their own family,” Ms Takesau said.
