Rabi villagers concerned with island leaders

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Concerns were raised about the Rabi Council of Leaders at a Talanoa Session with Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama.

The Rabi Council is the Administrative Authority on the island.

Christopher Chand reports

Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says the government will continue to look into the affairs of the Rabi council of Leaders. This he says needs to be done to avoid a repeat of the 1991 upheavals in Rabi.

Elders have raised concerns at how the Banaban funds had been misused by previous councils. They say the previous PM's neglected this and they had nobody to turn to.

Commodore Bainimarama assured village elders yesterday he would keep a close watch on the Council.

The Prime Minister is currently in Kioa and will head to Cicia tomorrow.
