Solomons and Kiribati look at farm produce trade

ABC RADIO AUSTRALIA Updated May 18, 2010 17:05:32

Solomon Islands farmers are backing an ambitious plan to sell their crops in Kiribati. John Bakeua from the Solomon Islands Ministry of Home Affairs says more than 20 farmers have expressed interest in the proposal. Local farmers traditionally have no avenues available to them to sell their crops - but now, they'll be given the opportunity of becoming exporters. Mr Bakeua says they'll be loading their produce on board a ship, MV ORTEGA, which is scheduled to arrive in Kiribati in early July.
