PLANS are in progress to construct a small oil factory to cater for a women's group's project of making virgin coconut oil.
The Banaban Women's Association on Rabi island in the north which has already started producing virgin coconut oil from their homes, have already started working on plans for the factory.
Association executive Terikano Takesau said the women received orders from companies in Viti Levu and the factory would help them cater for growing demands in future.
"The number of orders we have for the virgin coconut oil has continued to increase and the women have already started making the oil at their homes," Mrs Takesau said.
"We have already worked on plans for a small factory on Rabi island and this includes the maximum oil production and its funding."
She said a proposal would be sent to the Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation asking for their assistance in the set-up of the factory.
Mrs Takesau is part of the ATH World of Difference program and is the representative from the Banaban community.
The women are expected to meet the first batch of virgin coconut oil order by next month.
Mrs Takesau said the women worked hard over past weeks in making oil to meet the demands.
"We know that the demand will continue to increase so having a small factory will help us keep up with demands from our customers," Mrs Takesau said.
"Whatever oil the women have produced at home are being kept at our major bulk and that will be sent out to our customers packed in little bottles."
