Rabi Islanders are grateful to the Vodafone ATH Foundation for making a difference in the lives of many in their community.
The Banaban community have benefitted from the World of Difference programme that is helping in their children’s welfare and economic projects on the island.
Last week, the 65th Anniversary commemorating the arrival of the Banaban people to Rabi Island was celebrated with style.
World of Difference candidate Terikano Takesau said the World of Difference programme was also included as part of the island’s celebration with representatives present at the event.
Foundation executive director Ambalika Kutty said the Foundation was glad that the programme could build the capacity of the Rabi candidate and also make such drastic improvements to the lives of the people in Rabi and helping them become more productive.
“Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation is thankful to the Banaban Child Welfare, the Rabi Council and the Banaban Women’s Organisation for taking the World of Difference programme to the next level.”
Ms Kutty said the project sustainability for Banaban Women and Children was on the verge of realizing its objectives.
Ms Takesau has mobilised more than 100 community groups within the 7000 population and has convened a number of activities to support the Banaban Community.
Ms Takesau said for the project of the Banaban Child Welfare, it had been identified that there was a need for an injection of $15,000 to take care of underprivileged children on Rabi Island.
So far only $500 has been raised and $14,500 is yet to be donated.
