by Terikano Takesau, Rabi Fiji

Banaban Child Welfare desperately need assistance to help the 50 disadvantaged children on Rabi have access to education 2012.

Whether it be in cash, books, school bags, pens ,rulers...etc. Some of these children are orphans of single parent, disabled, etc should you have a heart for these children.

We have fundraised but whatever we have collected is not enough to cater for all of them.

Let us help make a change in the lives of these children too.

Sponsorship for 1 child for a year FJD$250 includes:

Uniforms, shoes, raincoat/umbrella, lunch box, school bag, school books and stationary, bus fares etc

History of the

BANABAN CHILD WELFARE ORGANISATION

Registered Charity Organization

The Banaban Child Welfare was launched in 2010 and is a registered charity organization through the Vodafone/Ath Fiji Foundation World of Difference program by Candidate Terikano Takesau.

It was established to meet the need of the disadvantaged Banaban children residing on Rabi Island.

Nominated trustees include:

Chairperson - Terairube Uatu, Court clerk Rabi Council of Leaders

Treasurer - Umesh Chand, local Rabi businessman

Secretary Terikano Takesau, Vodafone/Ath Fiji Foundation

Elected committee members include 2 people from each of the 4 Villages on Rabi Island.

The committee and trustees did a household survey in November 2010 on the Rabi population and identified 50 disadvantaged children aged between 6-14 years children who needed access to education.

Banaban Child Welfare started off with zero balance, however publicized its need to cater for these children’s education through media late 2010

January 2011 secured funding of $10,000.00 with a Suva Business woman who wished to remain anonymous  through Lions club of Labasa because Banaban Child Welfare did not have a Bank account then.

Banaban Child Welfare then provided school materials required by the 50 children to Lions Club of Labasa and the donor.    The Lions club of Labasa got the quotations for the school requirements given by Banaban Child Welfare committee and purchased materials in Suva.

Lions Club brought all the bought materials which included school books, bags, pens rulers, school uniforms, lunch boxes, raincoats, umbrellas, school sandals and presented them to Banaban Child Welfare at Rabi.

Banaban Child Welfare together with Lions club of Labasa distributed the school materials to the 50 children on Rabi Island.

Lions club of Labasa provided acquittals to donor.

Banaban Child Welfare only provided a traditional gift pack to the Donor for acknowledgment. The Committee has also provided feed back on the school progress of the children after the exams to the donor.

May 2011 Banaban Child Welfare opened its bank account.

2012 I am sustaining my project for Banaban Child welfare and that is to sustain assistance for the children and identify the disadvantaged in the next age categories 15-18 years.

Awaiting the results of the thorough household survey "For a better Rabi” carried out in November 2011 which we will assess late January 2012.

Thanks.
