Banaban Voice

News and information service for Banaban Network Worldwide!

All communication on Rabi has been badly damaged, including Vodafone tower, Satellite dish, etc. RCL Chairman, Paulo Vanualailai believes it will be sometime before communications are restored on the island.

We are still trying to get an Emergency Satellite phone link that Ken has taken in but no contact yet with the Island.

We have set up this SPECIAL - MESSAGES FOR HOME (RABI) discussion page where you can post messages or information you are trying to find out back home in the island.

Could we please ask anyone traveling to Rabi to please PRINT OUT these messages and take them in for distribution to loved ones back home so we can let them know that their families are trying to help them from this end.

This is very important to help with morale. As our Chairman Paulo has stated, "Our people on Rabi are just devastated. They had never fully recovered from Cyclone Ami and now Tomas has finished off what Ami had started."

Mauri,

my only message is for the Banaban people to take seriously worshiping the Almighty creator of Heaven & Earth as it was through him that our ancestors are brought from Ocean island (Banaba) to Rabi island, therefore we may try to do best of our people but if it is not the will of the Almighty we will not succeed.

May God have mercy on our people and Bless us all.
Thank you very much Stacey for this page..

Our hearts and prayers go to our beloved family members, friends and all those who are badly affected by this cyclone on Rabi Island. I can not image how bad and devastating the cyclone has impacted on them, but hope that helps and supports are already on the way immediately for natural disaster assistance maybe and helps to restore all communications back so we keep in touch with families and friends in the island. Lets open up to these peoples who are in this very difficult and sad situation and help in anyways we can, and especially lets remember them in our prayers too.

Thanks Charles for your sympathy to our families and friends on Rabi.

I urge our brothers and sisters on Rabi island to join hand as one at this recovery stage to shape up the beauty of their island Rabi. Everyone has a part at this crucial time as time and tide wait for no man.

We give our moral support to the Rabi Council of Leaders in the big task they are doing for their people and their island. The Kiribati Government seems to be lousy and sleepy to see the problems our brothers and sisters at Rabi have been experiencing. I urge your rep to the Kiribati Parliament to raise this issue in the forthcoming session.

Regards to my relatives and friends at Rabi and to my bro Ken Sigrah ma Stacey

I am thankful for this website. I, and 30 of my closest friends and associates, are diligently praying for those deeply affected by Tomas. Please join us in our urgent prayers, to God Almighty, that He will expedite the funding of our approved grant for Fiji (and surrounding islands), Vanuato, and the Solomn Islands. This effort has been in the making for over eight (8) months. We have heard that we are possibly weeks away from the first distribution. The grant is broken up into three (3) separate grants. The Fiji area grant alone totals over $91 million dollars. The total grant amount is nearly $300 million. There are sixteen (16) of us who are ready, at a moments notice, to leave our current jobs and head to Fiji. A year ago these 16 people were not closely associated. God has drawn this group, as only He can, to focus our attention on His urgent calling. It has been very clear God has lead this group to pray for Fiji, as well as the islands mentioned above. We gather every Wednesday evening for about 3 hours of prayer, devotion, and planning God's mission for us. The group includes paramedics, medical technicians, construction experts, disaster relief experts (one current Red Cross Official), and others with unique gifts. It has been extremely difficult to know of your current great need and to realize we currently have not been provided the funding. Please pray for our faith to know and understand that God will not forsake His people in the South Pacific and that He will make the provisions for His great works.

May God expedite His blessings and provisions to His people in the South Pacific.
Our hearts and minds including our prayers goes out to our Banaban brothers and sisters out there in Rambi. You are all in our thoughts and as a results we are planning to have a fundraising asap. We have Tawana's wedding coming up this coming Saturday April 17th but on the 10th of this month, this Saturday we will atttend a 1 year old birthday Party of Eritara Tito Biira's son and we will tau soli and plan for the fundraising. Its only a few of us here but hopefully we will able to assist and help our Banaban people recover from the aftermath of Cyclone Tomas.
Great News Roba, as you know the US dollars converts nicely for them back in Fiji and every dollar helps with buying more food for the next aid drop. This is the time now that food reserves have been depleted. Our Chairman Paulo told me on Monday before leaving for Rabi that even the sugar and flour are in real short supply now in Suva. He was trying to buy as much as they could afford as he believed the shortage will get worse. Apparently a lot of the Suva supplies have gone accross to Lau.
Regards to all your USA Island group there and ko raba for your efforts.
