Banaban Voice

News and information service for Banaban Network Worldwide!

We're seeking help from our people and friends who are willing to help us fund-raise for the Buakonikai Methodist Church that was partly destroyed during Cyclone Tomas.

This fund-raising will be held next month as this month is a busy month for everyone.

Our means of fund-raising are:

1. Gunu Sede
2. Dinner night

We will be contacting the gang back on the island and try and find out the total cost of maintenance and we will try and reach that target.

We're trying to look for sponsors who can help us with our gunu sede. So far, a family from Rabi is sponsoring 2kg of grog.

Advices to better the idea of this fund-raising is really appreciated.

I will keep our BV members updated with the happenings.

PS: Please do not hesitate to give in your ideas.

Hi aunty Stacey

We havent got any bank account yet but Uncle Temate and the gang will open one soon but they're still trying to find out if the Buakonikai Church have one so that they dont have to pay to open another.

Yes we're currently working with the Methodist Church here in Suva and Rabi.
I will tell Uncle Temate and Uncle Nawaia your idea.

For now, we're trying to collect some money for the tapauline to replace the missing roof as the rain is doing damages to the floor and we dont want that.

We're trying not to spend money but looks like we dont have a choice here coz if we leave it for too long...there will be more damages and that will be more costly.

I will try and get all the details from Uncle Temate and let you know.

Thank you for your support and I will update u with the happenings from this end.

Regards Steppa

Hey Sinto....

Oi!! Yes, u still can do something. How bout buying a Tarpauline from there and give it to Uncle Aren since he's there to take with him when he comes back? U know its just an idea....*HINT HINT* lol!!!

Yes, its sad indeed to see the "grand" church falling apart. We're just trying our best to do what we can do and we're very greatful to all those who have supported us.

Uncle Nawaia and them are wrecking their brain on how to get the four tarpauline and send it to Rabi ASAP!!

But i know we can DO IT!!!!

Hey this is a very interesting! It's good to see the youths are active and expressing their love for GOD and BUOKONIKAI.
Really a shame to see the 'grand' church falling apart. Seeing that i'm in Vanuatu, i'm not of much use to you all. However, rest assured you're all in my prayers ke. That's the best i can do from here. Pray for Rabi and all the Banabans.
Greetings to you all,
Firstly, forgive us for supposedly stopping you from your very enthusiastic move for the restoration of Buakonikai church building. Actually, we did not stopped you. We asked you and all other Buakonikaians to combine forces as one and move towards that common goal - the complete restoration of Buakonikai church. The way we looked at it It's going to be a huge project so we need to organise and cordinate ourselves real well particularly so if we have to seek assistance from our overseas members and friends.
Let us update you all on what has transpired: we are now currently in contact with the Buakonikai Church Committee tasked with the complete restoration of the church building. Four of the six tarpaulins (40ft x 40ft) they required for the temporary cover of the church roof were sent to Rabi yesterday by cdp. One of the Buakonikai church members is now collecting them from Savusavu. The 5th one was purchased this afternoon and the 6th on it's was so if you want to contribute to this last one you still have time. The cost of each tarpaulin is $135.00. For those of you who have contributed...a very big thank you and God bless you always.
The tarpaulins are just the beginning of the major drive for that goal so do not be downhearted. Let's all move as one force. The Buakonikai Committee members have asked us for a qualified civil engineer who could do proper inspections and do estimates for the complete overall of the church roof. If you know anyone from Rabi who could do it ask him or her the Christian way.
We have also asked the Buakonikai talatala and Church Committe for an official letter to use for fundraising and donations from freinds and members overseas and the Church's bank account number for that reason. They are now working on this.
Lastly, we thank you for your enthusisms and dedications. That is the kind of strength, dedications and motivations that our elders had. Let us not be a stumbling block for you all, let us all work together...kam raraba ao tia bo moa. God bless.

We will get back to u wen dat day comes.....

Right now we're being told to wait for the Letter Head from Rabi and den we can start with our fundraising....

But the "UNCLES" wants us to combine with them and the Lautoka gang when they come to Suva....which is not bad at all i guess.....

For all i know, the gang from Ltka will be here during the two weeks break and they will host a volleyball Tournament and a gunu sede with entertainment from Tangaroa's Band..

As for us, a gunu sede too and Lovo Pack.

We're not sure what the "UNCLES" have in mind for their fundraising but we jas have to wait!!!!!

Greetings Uncle Takaniko,
I think we are the ones who should apologise to you and your colleagues for the misunderstanding.

As you mentioned earlier, we're waiting for the official letter from the Church committee to use for the fundraising.........are we included in this WAIT too for small fundraising? Its this part that we're not really clear with. Do we have to wait for the letter or is this the same letter to the Uniting Church HQ that was mentioned earlier in Aunty Stacey's comment?

We were thinking to start off with just those mini fundraising while the letter is in progress as we leave the formal stuff (like seeking for sponsors) to the elders.

Also, we would like to keep everyone updated with the happenings from our end:

We will be doing our fundraising twice a month till further notice.

We will be putting up our monthly fundraising calendar tomorrow for everyone to see.

To all our youths out there, PLEASE do not hesitate to come forth and give a helping hand!!!!

To our respected elders, PLEASE advices us on how to better our ideas so that we can all move as ONE.

Thanks

Mauri Steppa,
Thank you for your understanding. I see no reason why you should not go ahead with your fundraisings. Just make sure there is enough transparency and accountability to protect us all. Our elders in the village are taking too long and we cannot rush them, they have to be very instrumental in this.
God bless.
Taka.

Ones again greetings to you all,

This is to inform you that the Buakonikai Repair Committee (Buakonikai Methodist Circuit, Rabi) have finally come up with their Bank Account number that all of you could use to sent money to to assist in the repair of the Church Building.
Account Number: 7586767
Bank: COLONIAL

God bless.

Taka.
Mauri,

Thanks for that info, we'll circulate it amongst our fellow Islanders over here in Auckland; for no matter how far we are from our Village, we still feel that close at heart and in spirit, especially in times of need.

I take it that the bank account is a Savings one?

God bless,

Paul.
Mauri Paul,

God bless
