Mauri Marlie

Just wondering are these copies at USP covered for copyright. Its just that Channel 9 and ABC TV Sydney and NHK Japan used some of the old Go Tell the Judge footage and they said it was very expensive to get copright use of the footage owned by BBC. Can image that USP would have covered this. That's why Ken and I are always very weary of making copies of these docos we have been given or worked with the production companies in the past.

Dear Stacey,

I should have been more detailed when replying to Sarah...I assumed that she was USP Student and since she is a Banaban and wanted to use it for research...that IPR (Intelletual Property Rights) is covered by USP copyright laws (bound under their agreement with BBC on footage materials) that anything that is from BBC can be recorded or duplicated only for research purposes or shown to students in lectures. Therefore, if any student requests for a copy the $20.00 is to cover the cost of dubbing the DVD. But USP is clear that it can never be sold commercially. I hope this clarifies the IPR issue.
Ok, give us a date so that we can fit you in. cheers.

Mauri Marlie, that's fine, as long as we are all covered. I was given a lot of these documentaries when I was working on various Banaban documentaries here in Australia, UK and the Japanese one. I know that Prof. Grant McCall and our good friend ex BBC Producer - Jeremy Cooper are always very mindful of making sure we are within copyright laws. That's why I was pretty sure USP would have this covered.

Sarah is over here in Brisbane now attending Queensland University so she can come down and visit us and go through our Banaban archives to help with her studies.
