Hi,

I was born on Banaba in 1971, but my parents left in 1973. I unfortunately didn't make it back with the rest of the 'Homecomers' in 1997, but loved my stay in Rabi that year, and my return in 1999 to visit Waite and her family, including her beautiful daughter Kiritina ;o)

Since 2016 I have lost 3 members of my faimly - my brother and both parents - and now Banaba is calling me home again. My sister and I would love to travel to Banaba with our family ashes if the Banaban elder's would think this is appropriate? Mum and Dad met and married on Banaba and I believe it was the happiest 13 years of their life - and it was definitely the best years of Jimmy's life. My sister Alison and I feel they would be happy there.

Please let me know if travel home for this purpose would be well received.

Hello Everyone

I have finally got around to archiving my parents slide that they took when they worked on Banaba in the 1960's , The goal is to have them digitized & made available , Possibly by writing a book about My parents on Banaba & my being born there & early childhood memories .

There are some fascinating images of a time long gone which stirred some great memories

Rgds

Is it possible to get in contact with the Council of Leaders or some of the people who were on it, as I understand that it was officially disbanded? I think I have an easily workable idea to at least get the rehab of Banaba started at very low or possibly zero cost to you. This is without completing the destruction of the island by mining the last of the phosphate. I think that there may be some options available that would allow some of the buildings to be rehabed also, but that would…

I've been fascinated by the gilbert and ellice islands since childhood and am now doing some preliminary research for a documentary that I would like to script about the islands, their history and the tragic consequences of phosphate mining in the Pacific. I would greatly appreciate any advice about how best to organise a trip to Rabi and any recommendations of individuals who would be particularly interesting to interview.

Can anyone update me on what buses you have in Rabi now, either dead or alive. I viewed the aerial photos after the cyclone and noted the Blue Mercedes and then possibly I could see the Red Mercedes on Google Earth. What has become of the big white Leyland from Fiji. Is it still on Island?
Hope someone can assist as the nearest I have gotten to Rabi was passing along the side of it in January 2015 on a Fiji Link from Nadi to Samoa

Regards

As it is known that the Rabi Council of Leaders has been demolished or dissolved by the current Bainimarama Government.

A big question that most of us are wondering who is financing this council.

How much has been spent so far?

What are the benefits that the island is having in terms of educational level, youth level or is it just a money making council.

Speaking from afar, it is seen that most of our primary school students still poor in English at primary school level even when they reaching form 3 levels in our beloved Rabi High School. We still have high number of teenage pregnancies.

What can the council do about this. Will they depend on other Ministerial dept to do this for them or are they brave enough to fight for this.

Has there been anything done to improve this. I think its about time that each has a part to say in this topic
BANABAN VOICE HAS TAKEN A VERY LONG DITCHtag:banabanvoice.ning.com,2015-03-20:2211587:Topic:1548272015-03-20T02:46:28.150ZKen.Sigrahhttps://banabanvoice.ning.com/profile/KenSigrah685
