"Man in custody over woman's death"
A WOMAN is dead after suffering multiple knife wounds allegedly inflicted by her de-facto husband.
The 32-year-old resident of the Vale-ni-Manumanu settlement died in her yard at Mali Place, off Reservoir Road, at about 3pm yesterday.
Assistant police spokesman Sergeant Suliano Tevita said the 40-year-old unemployed man allegedly struck the woman with a cane knife after an argument.
"He struck her inside the house and she ran outside to save herself, but she was probably too weak and collapsed on the lawn in front of the house," Sgt Tevita told the Fiji Times.
"The man's mother had gone to pick up his son from school and when she returned, she saw the deceased lying motionless in a pool of blood on their lawn," he said.
"They alerted police who came right away."
Sgt Tevita said the accused was now in police custody at the Samabula Police Station and would be questioned once the post mortem examination was concluded.
The post mortem was to have been held last night.
Late yesterday, detectives were at the scene conducting forensic investigations.
