Rabi High aims to develop quality learners

Rabi High School is located in Tabiang with a total roll of 250 students.
The only secondary school on the island, offers classes from Forms One to Seven administered by a staff of 25.

The former site for the school was located at the Government station in Nuku which was opened in 1985 by the then British Ambassador.

It was a Junior Secondary School then having the first Principal who was a local (Banaban) by the name of Teiwaki Benaia.

The current Principal, Ranjishwar Prasad joined the school this year and has high expectations of the school and the capabilities of its students.

Students in this school learn the basic subjects in the education curriculum including Local Craft, Music, Culture and Vernacular.

At this high school, not only the Banaban children attend but other races.

This follows the arrival of government workers who are transferred to the island to serve the people.

Their children attend this school and other primary schools.

What is amazing about this multi-racial integration is that the students exchange their language, culture and traditions.

On this island, parents place great importance on the education of their children.

Some families, from the more distant village, leave their homes for the school term and build makeshift housing on land near the school.

It is understood they then fish and do other jobs so their children can attend high school.

This is what island life is all about and Rabi is no exception.

From the Principals desk

Ranjishwar Prasad (Mr)

Warm greetings and good wishes to newspaper readers, students throughout the country, parents, guardians, well wishes and the wider community at large.

Introduction of soccer has begun in term 1 and coaching is carried out by teachers once every week. Religious significance programmes and other special and other programmes such as children's day, Rabi day, Ratu Sukuna day is well observed by the school.

Facilities - Currently the school is semi-equipped with most of the facilities to enhance teaching/having activities. Rabi High school provides an excellent environment and the island way of life without any form of pollution.

School Uniqueness Rabi High School provides education for form 3 - 7 student mostly of Banaban origin from the islands 3 feeder schools. Isolation from the mainland is a major problem.

The nearest anchorage to the main island (Vanua Levu) is Karoko 35km across the sea.

The school is located 142km from Savusavu Education Office.

The school is blessed with beautiful sea view and green vegetation, sandy beaches, regular supply of fresh water from the mountains.

The solar energy facilities have been arrested by "It's Time Foundation" of New South Wales, Australia under the Island Assistance Scheme. The school has a multiracial and multicultural set of staff of whom 13 are Banabans, five Fijians, four Indo Fijians, 1one part European and four Banaban ancillary staff.

Examination Results The pass rate in the past years has been above 65per cent for the 3 external exams from forms 4 - 7 and this is due to the commitment of teachers, parents and Rabi Island Council which oversees the daily running of the school.

In 2009 50 students will appear for FJC exam, 55 for FSLCE and 20 for FSFE and a similar result is expected at the beginning of next year.

Principal's Vision

To ensure that stakeholders' aspirations for their children's learning are adhered to according to laid down rules and principles of the school.

Principal's Mission

To maintain a healthy working relationship between the Ministry of Education, management, PTFA, staff and students of the school
