POLICE have issued a fresh call for parental supervision of children following the early morning Wednesday road accident that killed three members of an extended family.
A stern warning has also been issued to club owners as reports indicated that the group of seven involved in the Nodovu, Lautoka, accident were returning from a nightclub.
Four passengers currently admitted in Lautoka Hospital are students.
Police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said investigations had also uncovered that the driver of the vehicle was carrying an expired licence.
"We urge families to please call the police when relatives are involved in drunk driving.
"It is better that we intercept and they spend a night in the cell than lose their lives," Ins Sokomuri said.
"We would also like to remind those driving with expired licences that the punishment is harsh.
"Get your licences renewed. And please, do not drink and drive."
Medical Superintendant of the Lautoka Hospital, Dr Jemesa Tudravu said the condition of a 17-year-old student who was critically injured had stabilised.
Inspector Sokomuri said he was unaware of post mortem results but alcohol and speed was suspected as the cause of the early morning crash of the three tonne truck.
