Three months to restore north communications - using Rabi Island Vodafone mast to service Taveuni

Fiji Time Online Tuesday, April 06, 2010
IT will take three months before communication is fully restored to all parts of the Northern Division and some parts of the Lau Group with maintenance works on the Devo Peak mast expected to last that long.
Telecom Fiji Limited northern manager Josaia Tupou said it would take that long to erect the 35 metre-high mast on Taveuni.
Devo Peak serves as an importation communication link between Suva and the Lau group.
Mr Tupou briefed the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, for the time being communication paths have been temporarily rerouted to other sites to keep communication open in some areas. Telecom is using the Vodafone mast on Rabi Island to provide communication to Taveuni.
