Please Help with the Banaban Child Welfare Project for 2010

During my visit to Rabi with Niki Taxidis last October 09, we met up with a remarkable young Banaban woman - Radhika Teaoka, who is now working for the Rabi Council of Leaders in the Social Welfare Department. Radhika has launched a project to assist improverished Banaban children on Rabi to be able to attend school.

Education on Rabi is not free and parents stuggle to find the money to send their children to school. This project provides essentials such as uniforms, school books etc to allow children in even the most needy circumstances to receive an education.

We would like to encourage people to get behind this project and sponsor children by donating books, cash etc.

The full details of the project and how you can get involved are available on:

Wow!!

This project is a wonderful initiative by the Social Welfare Dept on Rabi Island. This actually proves that the Banabans have come to realize the importance of education and that they are making an effort to help themselves!

One suggestion would be if those attending primary & high school in the urban areas to keep their text books at the end of each school year and not throw them away. If you don't have a little sister or brother to use after you then those text books could be better off donated to the unfortunate children on Rabi Island.
We've been doing that for the past years and it has really helped our cousins on Rabi Island!

At least thats a start!

No we haven't contacted any Rotary Clubs from our end but have been calling on our BV members and friends of the Banaban community to assist. Any ideas or assistant are more than welcome for this very worthy project.
All Banaban children regardless of their family circumstances deserve an education to give them the best start in life and opportunities for the future.

Stacey

mauri,

i have a suggestion for an initiative - why not approach Fiji Rotary Club for assistance. I can send word to Salt Lake City for donations from the LDS church.

Let me know if you have sent words to Fiji Rotary Club, I may contact Father Bonato at USP or Warwick Pleass also in Suva.

God bless.
