An 18 year-old student is chasing his childhood dream, to walk in his grandfather’s footsteps.
Nigel Etuate Christopher’s grandfather was the first doctor on Rabi Island.
Today, Christoher was given that chance, after he was handed air tickets and allowance to study for six years in Georgia.
The youngest of four all male children, Christopher thought his dream of a medical career had come to an end after he was not accepted into the Fiji School of Medicine.
Today he is excited at the opportunity given to him, as he is one of the first batch of six recipients of the Georgian government scholarship to Fiji.
“Growing up with my grandfather, he was the first Rabi doctor. So, every holiday when I go and see him, I go and hide his stethoscope and listen to my heartbeat. My inspiration was through my grandfather, at that time, I told myself, I’m going to be a doctor.”
Christopher and the five recipients will leave for Georgia on Monday.
