A RABI fisherman stumbled upon bullets on his village foreshore on Monday.

The 35 live rounds of ammunition were discovered by a 35-year-old man, at the Tabwewa Village foreshore, while on his way fishing.

Police spokesman Sgt Suliano Tevita confirmed that investigations were underway into the origins of the bullets.

Police also confirmed that the bullets were believed to belong to a 308 caliber Winchester rifle.

"It was a surprising find and I can't say at this stage if the bullets have been lying there for a long time," he said.

"They should be on its way to Labasa where they will be further examined.

"In the meantime we have taken statements from some of the islanders."
