THE people of Rabi are looking forward to the proposed virgin coconut oil factory which is to be built on the island soon.

Former Banaban Women Group co-ordinator and project initiator Terikano Takesau said the project would also benefit other communities close to the island.

Ms Takesau said they were working closely with these villages including Kanakana, the district of Tunuloa, Vunikura and Tukavesi area.

"We are also having talks with the mentioned communities for a joint effort with our people in supplying the demand of the factory. Therefore the factory will not only benefit the people of Rabi but it will also benefit the surrounding communities in the Tukavesi area."

Ms Takesau said people on the island used to produce virgin coconut oil from their own homes on a small scale. "We have been receiving orders from markets both overseas and local and the demand has been huge but we have not been able to satisfy these demand."
