Fiji declares clean bill of health on typhoid

PACIFIC BEAT - ABC RADIO AUSTRALIA Updated October 6, 2010 10:44:46
Fiji's health minister, Dr Neil Sharma, says their country's typhoid education campaign is proving successful with no fresh outbreaks reported.

The re-emergence of typhoid is a constant fear across the region.

Yesterday we reported here on Pacific Beat Papua New Guinea health authorities dismissing reports that there has been an outbreak of typhoid in the East Sepik Province, which was confused with the cholera epidemic there.

Dr Sharma says the two pockets of typhoid are isolated and well in hand.
