FIJI PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION - EAST WEST CENTRE SCHOLARSHIPS


In a bid to meet the changing global demands, the East-West Centre in Hawaii is inviting applications from Fiji nationals to apply for undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and graduate-level certificate scholarships.

Scholarships, fields of study and respective due dates to the East West Centre in Hawaii are as follows:

Scholarship Type of study Application deadline Field of Study

1 United States – South Pacific Scholarship Program Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree study and Washington D.C summer internship. February 1 Agriculture, Business (Undergraduate only), Computer Science, Education, Environmental Studies, Journalism, Political Science, Public Administration

2 East-West Centre Graduate Degree Fellowship Master’s Degree (24 month fellowship) or Doctoral degree (48 month fellowship) November 1 Refer to application materials

3 Asian Development Bank –Government of Japan Scholarship Graduate degree study (24 month scholarship) November 1

4 Asia Pacific Leadership Program Five or nine month course of study; includes seminars, field studies and internships. December 1

2.0 ELIGIBILITY

2.1 Must be Fiji citizen.

2.2 Must have completed Form 6.

2.3 Must not hold dual citizenship.

2.4 Individuals who already have an undergraduate degree may apply for the bridging program, leading to a Master’s degree.

2.5 Successful applicants are expected to return to Fiji at the end of their scholarship award to complete the two year home residency requirement under the Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa program

3.0 APPLICATION PROCEDURES

3.1 The application materials can be downloaded from www.eastwestcenter.org/studentprograms .

3.2 Application packets can also be obtained from the US Embassies or consulates located in Suva, Fiji; Auckland or Wellington, NZ; Port Moresby, Papau New Guinea; Apia, Samoa.

3.3 Interested applicants can also enquire at the Awards Services Office at the East-West Centre, 1601 East-West Road, Honolulu, Hawaii 96848 -1601.

3.4 Additional enquiries can be directed to telephone number +1(808)944-7735; Fax +(808)944-7730, email: USSP@EastWestCenter.org.

3.5 All inquiries should be referenced as 2010 United States-South Pacific (USSP) Scholarship Program competition.

3.6 All applicants are req uired to scan their completed application and supporting documents and email the entire application to USSP@EastWestCenter.org. The scanned documents are to be a single PDF file.

3.7 If one is unable to scan their completed application form then they areto fax the application to East-West Center’s Award Services Office at +1-808-944-7730.

3.8 After emailing and faxing their application, the applicant must then send the hard copy of the application by fast post or express mail courier no later than February 1.
