One in five Pacific women die during child birth and pregnancy

ABC RADIO AUSTRALIA 26 Feb 2010 A study by the New Zealand Parliamentarians' Group on Population and Development has found that five women die each day in Pacific Island countries due to pregnancy or childbirth-related causes. Researchers heard submissions from around 17 organisations and individuals and found that high rates of teenage pregnancy and a shortage of midwives and doctors to assist births are partly to blame.
